Model-linked drawings carry structural data into fabrication documentation and DSTV NC output
Tekla Structures keeps drawings tied to the structural model rather than treating them as separate geometry. Single-part, assembly and cast unit drawings present model objects in 2D, and associated drawing content updates when the corresponding model objects change.
After detailing, the same model can produce DSTV NC data for CNC workflows. Part length, holes, bevels, notches and cuts are translated into machine-readable coordinates, connecting structural detailing with shop production without re-creating the part geometry in a separate drawing file.
Fabrication drawings, rebar recognition and numbering define the 2022-2026 release ladder
| Release family | Local workflow breakpoint |
|---|---|
| 2022 | Introduced the Fabrication drawings workflow for single-part, assembly and cast unit drawings, with per-object settings or automatically detected matching templates. |
| 2023 | Revised rebar shape recognition to handle polycurve geometry with straight and curved legs and to simplify complex bars toward predefined bending shapes. |
| 2024 | Improved the drawing cloning engine used by Smart create and classic cloning, including section-view creation and placement of views and dimensions. |
| 2025 | Added Numbering Preview so proposed position numbers can be reviewed before assignment to parts, assemblies and reinforcement objects. |
| 2026 | Added Freeze and Unfreeze rebar set commands to prevent automatic changes to reinforcement that has already been detailed or fabricated. |
Saving a model in a newer Tekla release prevents reopening it in an older release
Tekla Structures stores model data in its model-folder databases, including the .db1 model database. Tekla Structures versions are not backwards compatible: after a model is saved in a newer release, the same model cannot be opened in an older Tekla Structures version. Keep that conversion boundary in mind before moving an active project to a newer offered release.

Tekla .db1 model databases and AutoCAD Architecture DWG projects use different native structures
A Tekla Structures model folder contains the .db1 model database. AutoCAD Architecture organizes a project as linked DWG drawing files such as constructs, views and sheets through Project Navigator. If the project needs to remain in that DWG-based architectural project structure, compare the AutoCAD Architecture offer instead.
