What is Autodesk Inventor?

Autodesk Inventor Professional is parametric 3D CAD software for mechanical design, assembly modeling, simulation, and manufacturing documentation with integrated tools for complex part geometry, multi-component systems, and design automation. It combines solid modeling, surface design, direct editing, and freeform modeling with constraints-based assembly functionality for rapid design iteration across multiple workflows targeting design engineers, mechanical product developers, and manufacturing specialists.

Professional edition extends standard Inventor with complete dynamic motion simulation for kinematics and forces, stress analysis for structural validation, specialized tools for sheet metal fabrication, frame design with automated component insertion, tube and pipe routing with bend calculations, weld frame design, and cable and harness routing for electrical and fluidic systems. Used by engineering teams in automotive product development, aerospace structural design, industrial equipment manufacturing, machine design, consumer product development, and architectural metalwork for creating production-ready designs with integrated manufacturing documentation and cross-CAD data translation from SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, NX, and other CAD systems.

Why Buy Autodesk Inventor Professional from Prosoftstore?

We offer permanent Autodesk Inventor Professional activation with one-time purchase - professional 3D CAD design software for mechanical engineers and product design teams without subscription fees. Full functionality included: parametric and direct edit modeling for flexible geometry control, assembly design with constraint-based motion, dynamic stress analysis and motion simulation to evaluate performance, sheet metal design with automatic flat pattern generation, frame design with automated component library insertion, tube and pipe design with bend deduction and welding, iLogic automation for rules-based configuration of complex assemblies, native DWG drawing creation with automatic view generation and annotation, and multi-CAD data translation to import and modify designs from any CAD source without format conversion.

Suitable for independent design consultants and freelance engineers, small mechanical design firms and workshops, automotive and aerospace suppliers developing complex assemblies, industrial equipment manufacturers creating specialized machinery, product development teams optimizing designs with simulation before production, and mechanical engineers managing multi-source CAD data from customer designs and cross-platform collaboration.

Autodesk Inventor Professional Key Features

  • Parametric Solid Modeling: Design parts with dimensional parameters and feature-based history to automatically update all dependent geometry and drawings when design intent changes.
  • Direct Edit and Freeform Design: Edit existing geometry directly by moving faces, edges, and vertices without parametric history constraints for rapid shape exploration and modification.
  • Assembly Design and Constraints: Create multi-part assemblies with mate constraints, motion limits, and subassemblies to validate fit, clearance, and mechanical function before production.
  • Dynamic Motion Simulation: Apply forces and motors to assemblies and calculate kinematics, velocities, and accelerations to verify mechanism operation and identify binding conditions.
  • Stress Analysis and FEA: Run stress analysis on parts and assemblies to calculate deformation, stress distribution, and factor of safety under static loads for design validation.
  • Sheet Metal Design: Design sheet metal parts with bends, flanges, and hems and automatically generate flat patterns with correct material stretch for manufacturing.
  • Frame Design Tools: Rapidly create structural frames and assemblies by inserting standard structural profiles and plates with automated joining and connection design.
  • Tube and Pipe Design: Route tubing and piping systems with automated bend calculations, wall thickness, and connection geometry to reduce design time and material waste.
  • iLogic Automation and Rules-Based Design: Define custom rules to automatically generate product configurations and component parameters based on functional requirements without manual redesign.
  • Cable and Harness Routing: Design electrical harnesses and cable runs with automatic routing, length calculation, and connector placement for integration with mechanical assemblies.
  • Multi-CAD Translation and Import: Read SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, NX, and other CAD formats natively to incorporate customer designs and third-party components into your assemblies.
  • Native DWG Drawings and Documentation: Generate 2D manufacturing drawings with automatic views, dimensions, annotations, and parts lists directly from 3D models with full DWG compatibility.
  • Weld Frame Design: Create welded structural assemblies with automated joint design, fillet weld sizing, and material specifications for fabrication and quality control.

Additional Inventor Professional Workflows and Project Compatibility

Project / native file version

Start with the Inventor release used by the team, customer, supplier, or archived project. A newer native Inventor file cannot be saved back as a fully editable native file for an older release.

STEP or DXF can provide exchange workflows for geometry or drawing data, but they do not preserve the complete native Inventor feature history.

AnyCAD can provide associative reference workflows in supported version combinations, including defined workflows for referencing newer IPT or IAM geometry when the required interoperability support is available. That is still not native save-back.

Newer Inventor drawings should not be treated as equivalent to the IPT/IAM AnyCAD reference workflow. If several people need to edit the same IPT, IAM, or IDW project, match the project's native Inventor release first.

Simulation and structural validation

Dynamic Simulation covers mechanism motion, kinematics, and applied loads. Stress Analysis is a separate FEA environment for stress, deformation, and safety-factor results. Frame Analysis supports static and modal frame analysis, including deformation, stress, and natural-frequency results.

A Dynamic Simulation study can provide a useful load case for structural analysis, but motion simulation is not itself a stress analysis.

Multi-CAD references

AnyCAD can maintain associative references to supported non-native CAD formats as referenced supplier geometry changes. Imported or converted CAD data is handled as supported reference or base-feature geometry; it is not native editable history from any CAD source.

Inventor Version Milestones

Version differences that may affect your choice

2013–2021. An older release may be appropriate when an existing project release, a downstream partner, or an older Windows workstation fixes the version choice.

2022 and later — Model States. Model States are useful when the project benefits from multiple configurations, manufacturing-stage representations or simplified states within one part or assembly document, including downstream drawing and BOM workflows.

2027 generation — included in the offered 2027.1 build. Inventor 2027 introduced the Slot feature, new Mirror-command controls, and the ability to publish assemblies to Content Center user libraries. The offered 2027.1 build includes those 2027-generation capabilities. These differences can favor the 2027-generation offer when those modeling, assembly-mirroring, or standardization workflows matter. Inventor 2027 requires Windows 11.
