What is SolidWorks Premium?

SolidWorks Premium is a parametric 3D CAD platform for mechanical design and product validation. It combines solid modeling, assembly management, and integrated simulation tools for desktop workflows targeting design engineers and product developers.

Premium edition extends standard CAD capabilities with time-based motion analysis, linear stress simulation, and advanced routing tools for piping, tubing, and electrical harnesses. It serves mechanical engineers in product development, validation, and manufacturing documentation workflows.

Why Buy SolidWorks Premium from Prosoftstore?

We offer permanent SolidWorks Premium activation with one-time purchase - professional CAD software for design engineers and product developers without subscription fees. Full functionality included: motion analysis, stress simulation, piping routing, electrical harness design, and advanced surface flattening for desktop mechanical design workflows.

Suitable for freelance design work, small workshop production, independent consulting projects, and skill development for personal desktop workflows.

SolidWorks Premium Key Features

  • Time-Based Motion Analysis: Simulate assembly kinematics and dynamics with motors, forces, and contact detection to verify mechanism performance and calculate joint loads throughout operational cycles.
  • Linear Stress Analysis: Calculate stress, displacement, and factor of safety under static loads using FEA methods to identify failure-prone areas and optimize part geometry early in design.
  • Piping and Tubing Routing: Generate 3D pipe and tube paths with automated fittings, supports, and BOM generation to accelerate mechanical system design and manufacturing documentation.
  • Electrical Cable Harness Routing: Create 3D wiring harnesses with automatic routing, flattening capabilities, and wire length calculations to simplify electrical system design and assembly.
  • Advanced Surface Flattening: Convert complex non-developable surfaces into 2D flat patterns with material compensation for manufacturing processes like stamping, cutting, and composite layup.
  • Assembly Interference Checking: Automatically detect component collisions and clearance violations in assemblies to prevent manufacturing issues and ensure proper fit before production.
  • Sheet Metal Design Tools: Design sheet metal components with automatic bend allowance, flat pattern generation, and corner relief features for accurate manufacturing output.
  • Photo-Realistic Rendering: Generate high-quality visualizations with materials, lighting, and environments using GPU-accelerated rendering to evaluate aesthetic design and communicate concepts.
  • Weldment Structure Design: Create structural frames with automated trimming, cut list generation, and weld bead definition for fabrication-ready documentation.
  • Mold Design Tools: Design injection molds with automated parting surface creation, core and cavity separation, and draft analysis to streamline tooling development.
  • Design for Cost Estimation: Automatically calculate manufacturing costs based on material, process, and volume parameters to evaluate design economics early in development.
  • Large Assembly Performance: Work efficiently with massive assemblies using simplified representations, selective loading, and graphics optimization for responsive navigation.
  • Reverse Engineering Tools: Import scanned point cloud and mesh data to reconstruct CAD geometry for legacy part reproduction and design modification.
  • ECAD/MCAD Collaboration: Exchange design data with electrical CAD systems to coordinate PCB placement, connector locations, and cable routing in integrated products.

Routing and Motion extend the core mechanical CAD workflow

Current SOLIDWORKS Design Premium adds electrical cable and wiring-harness routing, pipe and tube routing, linear static analysis for parts and assemblies, time-based Motion Analysis, and advanced surface flattening over Professional. The separate SOLIDWORKS Simulation product family adds further study types, including fatigue, frequency, buckling, thermal, nonlinear, and dynamic analysis. Premium therefore carries a focused built-in analysis layer while the broader Simulation family covers the wider CAE study set.

Routing is integrated into the assembly model rather than handled as loose sketch geometry. A route is a special subassembly built from fittings or connectors, route parts such as pipes, tubes, wires or cables, and a 3D-sketch centerline. That underlying model already existed in 2013, but the workflow continued to evolve inside the versions available here: 2025 SP2 added clip assemblies to the Routing Component Wizard, 2025 SP3 can combine total length and mass for identical cables across routing subassemblies in supported BOM types, and 2026 adds Follow Routing Path so Auto Route guidelines can follow a selected sketch path. For projects centered on routed electrical, cable-harness, piping, or tubing work, the 2025-2026 changes are concrete workflow reasons to prefer a newer listed version.

Motion Analysis changes less across the same span. In 2013 it already combined assembly mates with forces, springs, dampers, friction, material properties, mass, and component contact, and it calculated loads for structural analysis. The 2026 workflow retains those same core elements. That continuity makes Motion a smaller year-selection breakpoint than Routing, while it remains one of the capabilities that distinguishes the current Premium tier.

Native files and Windows create the hard version boundaries

Native SOLIDWORKS files remain release-sensitive. Service Pack 5 of the immediately previous release can open next-release parts and assemblies only between consecutive annual releases, and those future-version files open read-only with reduced FeatureManager data. Full editing requires the newer release. SOLIDWORKS 2014 SP5 is a specific exception and cannot open SOLIDWORKS 2015 files at all. For a project that must remain fully editable, choose its native annual release or a newer version after validating the migration.

Beginning with SOLIDWORKS 2024, the current release can save parts, assemblies, and drawings back to the previous two releases as fully functional documents. Access requires an active subscription, and incompatible items must be resolved before the save completes. The function cannot reach beyond two releases. If the target project is older than that range, or the required subscription is unavailable, use the matching annual version on this page or a separately validated migration workflow.

Two broader breakpoints also separate older years from newer ones:

  • 2017: 3D Interconnect introduced direct work with supported third-party native CAD data while maintaining an associative link to the original file, replacing the older translation-first workflow for those formats.
  • 2020: Detailing Mode added a way to open large drawings without loading model data and still perform supported annotation work. It applies to drawings saved in SOLIDWORKS 2020 or later.

Windows compatibility for the versions listed here

Windows is the second hard filter after the project year. Choose a row that contains the offered build you need. If the project year and current operating system do not overlap, use a compatible listed version or move the workstation to a supported Windows environment; Windows XP has no compatible version on this page.
