What is CAMWorks?
CAMWorks for SolidWorks is integrated CAM software for automated CNC programming directly within SolidWorks. It combines automatic feature recognition, knowledge-based machining strategies, and high-speed toolpath generation for milling and turning operations targeting CNC programmers and manufacturing engineers.
CAMWorks extends SolidWorks with advanced multi-axis capabilities, VoluMill ultra-high-speed roughing, tolerance-based machining automation, and Technology Database for reusable machining strategies. Design engineers and programmers use CAMWorks for rapid NC code generation, reduced cycle times, and associative toolpath updates across job shop, mold and die, aerospace, and precision manufacturing workflows.
Why Buy CAMWorks for SolidWorks from Prosoftstore?
We offer permanent CAMWorks activation with one-time purchase - professional CAM software for CNC programmers and manufacturing shops without subscription fees. Full functionality included: automatic feature recognition on over 20 prismatic features, knowledge-based machining strategy selection, VoluMill adaptive roughing, tolerance-based toolpath automation, and multi-axis simultaneous programming for desktop machining workflows.
Suitable for independent job shops, small mold and die production, prototype machining operations, freelance CAM programming, and CNC workflow optimization for permanent desktop use.
CAMWorks Key Features
- Automatic Feature Recognition (AFR): Recognize over 20 prismatic machinable features including holes, pockets, slots, and bosses automatically from SolidWorks geometry to reduce programming time by up to 90% compared to manual operation selection.
- Knowledge-Based Machining (KBM): Automatically select optimal machining strategies, tools, feeds, speeds, and depths of cut based on feature type and material properties to generate production-ready toolpaths with minimal manual editing.
- VoluMill High-Speed Roughing: Apply VoluMill adaptive constant-engagement technology for complex 3D shapes and prismatic parts to reduce cycle times up to 80% and extend cutting tool life up to 500% on hard materials like titanium and stainless steel.
- Tolerance-Based Machining (TBM): Read tolerance ranges, surface finish annotations, and geometric dimensioning from SolidWorks PMI data to automatically select correct machining strategies and machine to specified tolerances without manual interpretation.
- Technology Database (TechDB): Capture and store proven machining strategies, tools, feeds, speeds, and operation templates in TechDB to reuse best practices across parts and reduce redundant programming tasks on future projects.
- 2.5 and 3-Axis Milling Operations: Program area clearing roughing, constant step finishing, pencil milling, and z-level operations with full control over toolpath parameters and cutting conditions for cavity and pocket machining.
- 4 and 5-Axis Simultaneous Machining: Create simultaneous multi-axis toolpaths for complex geometries including impellers, turbine blades, undercut pockets, and contoured cavities to machine parts in fewer setups and reduce total cycle time.
- Turning and Mill-Turn Operations: Program lathe operations for cylindrical parts and simultaneous mill-turn machining on CNC turning centers to combine milling and turning in single setup for complex rotary components.
- Virtual Machine Simulation: Simulate complete CNC machine motion and tool movement using actual G-code output to detect collisions, verify tool clearances, and test part programs before running on the shop floor machine.
- Associative Toolpath Updates: Automatically update toolpaths when SolidWorks model geometry changes to maintain design-to-manufacturing synchronization and eliminate manual CAM rework from design iteration cycles.
- NC Code Editor and Backplotting: Verify and edit generated G-code directly with integrated editor, backplot toolpath verification, and syntax checking to ensure correct part programs before CNC machining.

Begin with the SOLIDWORKS year, not the CAMWorks year
CAMWorks runs inside SOLIDWORKS, so an add-in release is useful only where its host range intersects the installed SOLIDWORKS release. The overlap is deliberate: more than one CAMWorks build may fit the same host, and the newest CAMWorks row is not automatically the best match for an older validated CAD environment.
| SOLIDWORKS version | Eligible CAMWorks offers |
|---|---|
| SOLIDWORKS 2026 | CAMWorks 2026 SP2; CAMWorks 2025 SP5 |
| SOLIDWORKS 2025 | CAMWorks 2026 SP2; CAMWorks 2025 SP5; CAMWorks 2024 SP5 |
| SOLIDWORKS 2024 | CAMWorks 2025 SP5; CAMWorks 2024 SP5; CAMWorks 2023 SP5 |
| SOLIDWORKS 2023 | CAMWorks 2024 SP5; CAMWorks 2023 SP5; CAMWorks 2022 SP5 |

Machine awareness becomes a release-level differentiator
| Offered release | Milestone | Why it changes the workflow |
|---|---|---|
| CAMWorks 2022 SP5 | Adds barrel-tool support, multiple TechDBs, probing improvements, and a revised 3-axis geometry workflow. | A strong baseline when reusable rules and a broad conventional machining workflow matter. |
| CAMWorks 2023 SP5 | Adds Wire EDM Premium work, Euler-angle 3+2 control, tapered and neck shanks, and VoluMill cavity options. | Tool definition and specialized machining coverage become more explicit. |
| CAMWorks 2024 SP5 | Introduces Machine Aware Programming and digital-twin context for machine components, stock, workholding, and tooling. | The machine setup enters the programming view before final simulation. |
| CAMWorks 2025 SP5 | Extends machine-aware simulation with loaded components and collision monitoring. | Verification uses more of the configured machine state. |
| CAMWorks 2026 SP2 | Adds Swiss machining and portable machine-data transfer between TechDBs. | Choose it for Swiss workflows or cleaner movement of machine configurations between workstations. |
Windows support is the intersection of add-in and host
| Windows version | Eligible offered releases | Host condition |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 64-bit | CAMWorks 2022 SP5, 2023 SP5, 2024 SP5, 2025 SP5, 2026 SP2 | For CAMWorks 2022, Windows 11 support starts at SP2; the offered build is SP5. The SOLIDWORKS host must also be Windows 11 eligible. |
| Windows 10 64-bit | CAMWorks 2022 SP5 through 2026 SP2 | Pair CAMWorks 2026 SP2 with SOLIDWORKS 2025 on Windows 10; SOLIDWORKS 2026 moves the host to Windows 11. |
An upgrade must carry the shop database with it
A new annual installation is not a complete migration when the production workflow depends on customized TechDB records, posts, tool cribs, machine definitions, or templates. Back up those assets and import the required shop data into the new release before retiring the old environment. Otherwise the software may open correctly while recognized features produce different operations than the shop expects.
Ready to automate your CNC programming? Select your preferred version from the table above, click Buy, and start generating toolpaths with automatic feature recognition and reducing programming time and cycle times with VoluMill high-speed roughing.
