autocad map 3d

What is Autodesk Autocad Map 3D?

AutoCAD Map 3D is a geographic information system (GIS) toolset that extends AutoCAD with native mapping capabilities for CAD professionals. It combines 2D and 3D drafting with spatial data analysis, geospatial visualization, and infrastructure management tools to work with shapefiles, geodatabases, and web services within the familiar AutoCAD environment.

AutoCAD Map 3D serves civil engineers, surveyors, utility managers, infrastructure planners, and GIS professionals who need to bridge CAD design and geographic analysis. The software handles geospatial data import and export, coordinate system transformation, thematic mapping for utility networks, spatial analysis for planning projects, LiDAR visualization for terrain modeling, and asset management workflows for water systems, electrical grids, transportation networks, and facility infrastructure.

Why Buy AutoCAD Map 3D from Prosoftstore?

We offer permanent AutoCAD Map 3D activation with one-time purchase - professional GIS and CAD software for mapping and infrastructure analysis without subscription fees. Full functionality included: Feature Data Objects (FDO) technology for direct access to multiple GIS data formats, georeference and coordinate transformation tools to align aerial imagery and survey data, thematic mapping to visualize networks by material or condition, spatial analysis for buffer, intersection, and proximity queries, COGO coordinate geometry tools for precise measurements, and LiDAR visualization for 3D terrain and point cloud analysis.

Suitable for civil engineers and GIS analysts, infrastructure utility companies, surveying and mapping professionals, municipal planning departments, facility and asset managers, transportation and water system designers, and skill development for geospatial analysis and CAD-GIS integration workflows.

AutoCAD Map 3D Key Features

  • Feature Data Objects (FDO) Technology: Access and edit geospatial data from multiple sources including shapefiles, geodatabases, web services, and SQL databases without data conversion to identify and manage features in native format.
  • Direct GIS Data Editing: Edit features against GIS data sources such as ESRI shapefiles, MapInfo, and Oracle databases using standard AutoCAD commands, saving changes back to original sources with full precision maintained.
  • Thematic Mapping and Display: Create color-coded maps that visualize infrastructure networks by material type, condition status, installation date, or custom attributes to identify patterns and communicate analysis results.
  • Spatial Analysis Tools: Perform buffer analysis, proximity queries, intersection detection, and spatial relationships to analyze location patterns and evaluate suitability for planning and design decisions.
  • Coordinate Geometry (COGO): Create and manage points using coordinate input, establish survey control networks, perform coordinate transformations between systems, and track coordinates across multiple projects with precision.
  • LiDAR and Surface Visualization: Display and analyze LiDAR point clouds, create TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface models, and overlay terrain data with infrastructure to evaluate slope and elevation impacts.
  • Georeference and Rubber Sheeting: Align raster imagery and scanned maps to real-world coordinates using control points, then adjust geometry to match accurate reference data without distorting known features.
  • Object Data and Feature Classification: Attach user-defined properties to drawing objects and features, classify objects by attributes, and use object data to control automated processes for annotation and report generation.
  • Query and Selection Tools: Find objects matching specific criteria such as layer assignment, coordinate range, or attribute values, then isolate and export selected data to new drawings or GIS formats.
  • Coordinate System Management: Assign geographic coordinate systems using EPSG codes, transform coordinates between systems, and work simultaneously in different coordinate references within the same project.
  • Drawing Cleanup and Validation: Identify and correct geometry errors, merge overlapping objects, move misclassified objects to correct layers, and validate network connectivity for utility and infrastructure data.
  • Raster Image Integration: Import aerial photographs and satellite imagery with world files, automatically position images using embedded correlation data, and use imagery as reference or analysis backdrop.

Additional workflows and product-specific details

Data Connect or import

Data Connect uses FDO providers while geospatial data remains in its source. Import instead copies or converts GIS data into AutoCAD drawing objects. Use the first approach when the feature source needs to stay linked; use the second when the DWG itself needs the geometry.

External sources

Live SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, WMS, WFS, and WMTS connections depend on the external source being reachable and on a provider/version combination supported by the installed Map 3D release.

Project files, host dependencies and version selection

AutoCAD 2018 through 2027 uses the AutoCAD 2018 DWG native format, so DWG year alone usually does not decide which Map 3D release to use. Start with the GIS sources, database versions, raster formats, and coordinate-system requirements the project actually depends on.

Those requirements change by release. Map 3D 2025 supports newer PostgreSQL/PostGIS and SQL Server versions. Map 3D 2026 adds vertical coordinate-system support for Raster FDO. Map 3D 2027 moves to newer PostGIS/SQLite support and removes MrSID raster support. If a project still depends on MrSID, convert that data to a supported format or use a release that fits the existing workflow.

Windows compatibility

Use Windows compatibility as a release filter after the project/object workflow is fixed. The table keeps only supported offered-release ranges.

Windows environment Offered releases with verified matching requirements
Windows 11 64-bit 2027; 2026; 2025; 2024; 2023; 2022; 2021
Windows 10 64-bit 2026; 2025; 2024; 2023; 2022; 2021; 2020; 2019; 2018
Windows 8.1 64-bit 2021; 2020; 2019; 2018
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit 2020; 2019; 2018

The 2027 release requires Windows 11.

Buyer-relevant release milestones

ReleaseBuyer-relevant changeWhen it matters
2025.0.1Supports newer FDO provider versions including PostgreSQL 15.4/PostGIS 3.4 and SQL Server 2022.Useful when the project connects to newer enterprise spatial databases.
2026.0.3Adds vertical coordinate-system support for Raster FDO and broader coordinate-system/provider updates.Useful when raster data carries vertical reference information.
2027Adds FDO-layer export to KML, supports PostgreSQL 18/PostGIS 3.6 and SQLite 3.50.4, and removes MrSID support.Useful for newer provider/KML workflows, but not a drop-in choice for projects that still depend on MrSID rasters.

When to choose another product

Map 3D is the better fit for GIS data access, coordinate systems, mapping, spatial-data management, and CAD-GIS exchange. Civil 3D is for rules-based civil engineering design with objects such as alignments, profiles, corridors, and engineering pipe networks. Some geospatial tools overlap, but the primary jobs are different.
