What is Archicad?

Archicad combines 3D building elements with project views, layouts and model-based schedules for architectural design and documentation.

It is intended for architects and building designers developing residential and commercial projects from the BIM model through views, schedules, layouts, and construction documentation.

Capabilities and workflows

Construction Elements organize walls, slabs, roofs and zones as model components

Archicad models building components with dedicated construction-element tools for walls, columns, beams, roofs, shells, slabs, meshes, zones, curtain walls, stairs and railings. These elements form the project model used by Archicad views and documentation.

Layout Book turns project views into drawing sheets

Project views can be placed on Layouts as Drawings, with scale, title and framing controlled at the drawing level. The Layout Book organizes layouts and drawings so model views can be assembled into a documented sheet set inside the Archicad project.

Interactive Schedules connect element data back to the model

Interactive Schedules generate element, component and surface lists from the model. Editable schedule fields can update model element parameters, and schedules can be saved as views and placed on layouts for quantity and documentation work.

Project files, host dependencies and version selection

Archicad uses .pln as its main native project type, carrying model data, project views, settings, attributes and library references. AutoCAD-based products, including AutoCAD Architecture, use DWG as their native drawing format, and AutoCAD Architecture organizes a building project as linked drawing files. If your project needs to stay in the AutoCAD Architecture/DWG environment, choose AutoCAD Architecture.
